„Gigantic Ingot“

INVITED COMPETITION for MIKROCHIPFABRIK Wacker in FREIBERG (DT)
Architect's office: ATP Achammer Tritthart & Partner,
Design/Plans/Model: Lia Röck, 2001

The Wafer Fab should be recognizable in terms of design as the centerpiece for the microchip factory site in Freiberg. The special elongated form with a shiny metallic facade refers to the manufacturing material for microchips. For microchip production, wafers are cut from a silicon ingot in the shape of a column - also known as ingots - onto which the chips are applied.

The outer appearance of the hall is shiny metallic with emerging ribs as a reference to the inner production process.
